In December, Director Susan Hassol and Science Director Richard Somerville both gave talks at the annual Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
Susan, as Senior Science Writer on the National Climate Assessment (NCA), spoke on “Integrating Communication Best Practices in the Third National Climate Assessment”. She discussed how editors, graphic designers, scientists, and communications experts worked together form the onset to craft a document and website that would be truly accessible and useful to all its intended audiences while still being comprehensive and scientifically accurate. Her talk can be viewed through the AGU Virtual Options page – it requires log in through either an AGU membership or creation of a free account, but viewing should be free for all users.
Richard, who recently delivered a TEDx talk on “Medical Metaphors for Climate Issues”, used that talk as an example of how the NCA could be utilized as a resource for science communication. His talk can also be viewed through AGU’s virtual option.
